A new record has been set for the sale of the priciest house in Australia, with a mansion in Sydney's Point Piper changing hands for $28.7m.
The property, which was built in 1999 and designed by Michael Dysart, sold to an unnamed buyer less than four weeks after being listed by L.J. Hooker Double Bay.
Until the $28.7m sale of ‘Routala’ earlier this month, the neighbouring residence ‘Altona’ held the title of being Australia’s priciest residential real estate transaction for more than five years, following its purchase for $28m in 2002.
Altona had taken the record from ‘Boomerang’, an Elizabeth Bay mansion that held the title for two months in early 2002 after achieving a sale price of $20.7m.
The new record may not stand for long, however, with similar waterfront properties in Sydney on the market with higher asking prices.
At the same time in Perth, Rose Porteous-Hancock’s expansive mansion – encompassing five separate living quarters across 7,567 sqm – is currently on the market with a listing price of $60m.
