South Australia's First Home Owner Grant continues to gain traction among first-home buyers, with the recent months marking a substantial improvement in demand.
Figures from the state government showed that 1,453 first-home buyers have received the $15,000 grant so far this calendar year. This was the best start for the grant in seven years. For the financial year 2020-2021, a total of 3,258 buyers have so far received the grant.
The biggest demand came from Adelaide, with Mount Barker, Lightsview, Munno Para, and Seaford rising as the top suburbs where the scheme is the most popular.
Of all the first-home buyers who received the grant, around 2,400 also applied for the First Home Loan Deposit Scheme. Those who were eligible to receive both were given a total grant of $40,000.
State Treasurer Rob Lucas said the robust take-up for the scheme provides further evidence of South Australia's strong ongoing economic and jobs recovery from COVID-19.
"We know South Australia is experiencing a massive housing and construction boom, which is great for local jobs, and it’s pleasing to see young South Australian first-home buyers driving part of that economic activity," he said.
