Paul Smith has only been in the property investment game for five years, but he’s already making great strides. Congratulations to Paul – our 2017 New Investor of the year!
Paul credits getting help from professionals as being instrumental in helping him to avoid risk and to make smart choices.
A plumber by trade, and the owner of a small to medium-size plumbing company, Paul says he came into the property game looking to play it safe.
“I believe that property investment, when done correctly, is the safest way to grow your wealth,” he says.
“We wanted to build a diverse portfolio that would perform during all financial seasons and set us up for early retirement.”
With $80,000 at his disposal, Smith started his journey by choosing to gather information from professionals in the field, attending property investment seminars as well as working with brokers and planners to determine the right strategy.
His first investment property was actually his first personal home in Currens Hill, NSW. After moving to Harrington Grove in Harrington Park, NSW with his wife Sandie, the couple realised that there was value in keeping the Currens Hill house as a rental property. That kicked started a journey that has seen them build a portfolio of five properties today, worth more than $2.5m – putting Paul and Sandie well on their way towards a wealth retirement.
