Australia’s average renter this year is female, aged 34, earns around $66K annually, and sends approximately five property enquiries to secure a home, according to a new study by rent.com.au.
When it comes to the distribution of renters, NSW now has the highest proportion of renters (30.8%), followed by Queensland (26.4%). The lowest percentage of renters can be found in Tasmania (1.6%) and the Australian Capital Territory (0.9%).
As for income, employed renters earn an average of $73,761 a year, higher than any other employment bracket in Australia and well above the average Australian salary ($66,653).
Renters in the Northern Territory have, on average, the highest income of all the states and territories (approximately $72K annually), while Tasmanian renters have the lowest income on average (around $45K).
The majority of renters are employed (68.4%), while renters in-between jobs account for 21.9%.
