“I have always had a strong interest in property. Having seen some very entertaining and charismatic auctioneers, it seemed like the most befitting avenue for me to enter the real estate industry,” he says.
Craig took quickly to the art of the gavel, winning the Newcastle leg of the Real Estate Institute of NSW’s Novice Auctioneer Competition in July 2017 and competing at the state finals.
His first property purchase was a beat-up three-bedroom house with a granny flat, purchased with his first royalty cheque from The Screaming Jets in 1993.
“We renovated it ourselves, moved in, then decided to rent it out when I got offered a gig overseas,” he says. “When we came back it had tripled in price, and that’s when we realised the value of real estate as an investment.”
Craig can relate to the feeling of “missing out on the property that you had to have”, and says he draws on these experiences as an auctioneer.
