City land value growth: the best (and worst)

The average residential land value per square metre in Australia’s capital cities has risen by between 169% and 459% over the past 10 years, according to recently released data, and the best performers may come as a surprise.

The cheapest suburb on the list was Herdsmans Cove, 16km from the general post office (GPO) in Hobart, where the median house price sits at just $140,000 according to RP Data’s February figures. In fact, half of the suburbs in Hobart’s top 10 recorded median prices of less than $200,000.
